PROTEST RALLY on Friday Dec 7,Navi Mumbai
A mass protest rally has been organised at the ground behind Terna Medical COLLEGE,Nerul(West),Navi Mumbai on Friday,December 7th 9.00 A.M as a part of the ongoing agitation against the Union Health Minister Ramadoss' proposal to increase the course of M.B.,B.S by one year.
Medical Students & Interns from all over Maharashtra would be participating in the Rally with black bands, banners & slogans to voice their protest !
Police permission for the rally has been secured by the organisers.
Kindly carry your aprons ,black bands & banners made by respective colleges !
Kindly assemble on time since the permission time for rally is limited.
Since the Govt & Health Ministry have so far turned a deaf year to our protest ,this time we are going to make it sound LOUD.....so make sure you are there !!!

Task Force on Medical Education for the National Rural Health Mission !!!
The task force on Medical Education for NRHM presented changes to be made in medical education so as to improve the national rural health.
The Union Health Minister wants to make Rural internship compulsory for 1 year for all the medical students all over the country for the betterment of the rural health but this is contradictory to the proposal put forward by the Task Force which says it is practically difficult and increasing the tenure of MBBS does not serve the purpose at all.
The task force report states
Problem - The medical graduate course of 5 ½ years is one of the longest professional courses. Lawyers undergo a 5 year course (after 12thstandard), Masters of Business Administration a 2 year course (after graduation), Engineers a 4 years course (after 12th standard), etc. These other courses equipthe individual to pursue their professions independently, though, of course, thestandard of performance improves with time.
It is only in the case of the medical graduate that an assertion is made that even 5 ½ years ofprofessional training is not enough, as the management of health of a
human being is a uniquely complex and demanding responsibility. As a solution it is suggested that the duration of the course be further extended in
order to provide more intensive clinical experience.
Solution - The Task Force has carefully examined this issue and feels that the claim
of clinical complexity of the medical profession is an over-stated one. The Committee was of the view that a fresh graduate must at least be able to deliver services contained in the primary
healthcare package.
The suggestion that the duration of the course be extended to give more intensive clinical exposure is not a practical proposition.
As it is, the graduate medical course is one of the longest professional courses, and the students and their guardians, are exposed to a prolonged financial and familial burden. With the extended time and substantial financial resources involved in a medical education, graduates are increasingly drawn towards the more lucrative specialisations, their choice often being in direct conflict with broad community requirements. Increasing the duration of the graduate course would only worsen those pressures.
Thus the task force clearly states that increasing the period of MBBS would ultimately worsen the situation rather than improving.
Then why the Union Health Minister wants to implement this proposal wich is already rejected by the task force?
So what is the solution to the improvement of Health Services in Rural areas??
Task force has advocated certain changes in the current 51/2 yrs curriculum is enough to improve the Rural Health!!
1.) There is an overload in the syllabus on the information content at the cost of clinical skills.
The Pre-clinical, Para-clinical and Clinical subjects are taught in compartments, and the pedagogic methodology does not connect the elements of these disciplines with the diagnostic and therapeutic aspects of the clinical topics. In most institutions, the teaching methodology is not problem-based and does not integrate the various non-clinical and clinical subjects.
in a practical sense, the total time allotted to the clinical subjects (in all the modes of teaching–lectures, postings and internship) would have to be balanced with the need for adequate clinical exposure to equip a medical graduate to function as a competent working professional.
2.) Inclusion of a six-week Rural Orientation Package in the MBBS
Curriculum
3.) the Task Force recommends that the breakup of the period of internship be modified as follows: Tertiary hospital – 3 months; Secondary hospital/ District hospital- 6 months; and PHC – 3 months.
Thus when the rural health can be uplifted just by making simple changes in the curriculum of MBBS without disturbing the tenure of the MBBS why is the Union Minster of Health is increasing the tenure by one year!!!
Come on students and interns join the protest actively to save your self from the wicked intentions of the health minister!!

CANDLE MARCH PROTEST ON 1st DEC
As a token of our protest against the union goverments decision to increase the tenure of MBBS from the current 5.5 yrs to 6.5 yrs a Candle March Protest was organized on Saturday 1st December 2007 at mumbai.
About 1000 medical students and interns from various colleges in mumbai had showed their strength to protest against the increase in the tenure of MBBS course!!
A special street play was presented by the students and interns of Rajiv Gandhi Medical College which depicted how the lives of 20,000 medical students would change if centre decides to increase the tenure of MBBS by one year!
A delegation of interns from state of Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh , Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan had also come for the candle march to show thier support for us and expressed the need of wgidespread agitation against the proposal throught India.

All maharashtra boycott of medical training!!!
From 3oth november 2007 , all medical students and the interns have boycotted the Medical Training program. None of the medical students attended thier lectures and clinical postings and the interns have also boycotted thier clinical training.
